CALIFORNIA DREAMING

DAY 18/138   Sunrise: 6:19 AM   Sunset 4:58 PM

I was awake early today so hustled down to the gym for an eight mile ride on the stationary, recumbant bike. When I arrived back at our cabin, the ship was preparing to dock in San Pedro.  I hurried outside and got this beautiful sunrise shot.

This is a very busy port filled with cranes, cargo ships, and other cruise ships.

While we waited for our time to disembark I recorded activity on the dock below.  I saw trucks that had pulled up with new provisions for the ship all of which were being stacked on the dock.  Meanwhile a K9 Service company had dogs sniffing the cases of eggs, fruits and vegetables.

After a brief glance at our passports, customs gave us permission to leave the ship.

My son, Neil, quickly arrived at the ship and whisked us away to see the new house that he is renting in Redondo Beach.  After celebrating my birthday with the family, we went to a local gym to cheer my youngest grandson on during his basketball game.  I call this 12 year old boy an athletic machine.  He's a terrific basketball player as well as excelling at soccer.

The boy in yellow is my grandson.

My granddaughter is artistic and interested in drama.  She shared some of her projects with me.  Unfortunately I forgot to take photos but here she is painting at the beach in December.

We enjoyed our visit with the family until it was time to return to the ship.

A little later after our return to the ship we were greeted by another spectacular sunset.

This evening there was a special event for all World Cruise Travelers.  We barely had time to rush to the area where this event was being held.  Tor Hagen, the Chairman of Viking Cruises spoke for a while about Viking's accomplishments over the years.  With so many people in the room, not only could we not see the speaker, there was no place to sit so we returned to our cabin without knowing the outcome of the reception.  I'm sure we'll learn more tomorrow.
