SECOND SEA DAY ON OUR WAY TO HAWAII
DAY 21/138 January 9, 2024 Sunrise 6:47 AM Sunset 5:06 PM
Time change again this morning. Got in my early morning recumbant bike workout in the gym. Doing 8 miles/day. Plus walking the stairs always. This seems to be the best workout for me.
We're slowly making progress towards Hawaii. Today is Tuesday and we arrive on to Kauai on Saturday.Second talk of my day is a guest lecture with Mr. David Burgess: "Did Columbus Really Discover America?" Mr. Burgess is a well-respected destination speaker with more than 17 yars of experience and is a published author.
Speaker this afternoon is Mr. Nigel Cox: "Chinese Seafarers: Did they follow the Vikings to the Americas?" Mr. Cox is a former British diplomat whose tours of duty included Paris and Beijing.
In between talks we have coffees, go to lunch and dinner with new friends, take naps, review photos, and write blogs. On the days when we have a really good performer at night, I take a nap so that I can stay up later. Sea days are busy; I get up at 5AM, hit the gym and ride on the recumbant bike, and use the stairs exclusively. There are nine decks so that's a lot of steps each day. Lunches and dinners with my new friends can take 2-3 hours! It's been great so far.
Last night I went to a musical event staring Alexa Jayne. She was billed as a British Songstress who took us on an energetic musical journey featuring artists including Adele, Tina Turner, ABBA, Elton John and Whitney Houston. Her angelic yet powerful vocals, dynamic dance moves and her vibrant persona left everyone wanting more. Our cabin is just above the Star Theater stage and I heard her practicing in the afternoon and could have sworn it was Whitney Houston singing "I Will Always Love You". She and her husband Hayden Smith will be on the ship until Hawaii so we should be hearing more from them.
Because I get up so early to hit the gym; if I want to stay up late to listen to the musical events I need to take a nap in the afternoon...but well worth it.
Viking has really upped their stage events with excellent lighting, sound effects, musicians, and vocalists.
