EARLY ARRIVAL FROM AUCKLAND TO ROTORUA

 DAY 43/138   FEBRUARY 1, 2024   Sunrise 6:28AM  Sunset 8:28 AM

Beautiful sunrise this morning

Before lunch we went to a lecture with Viking resident Historian Wing Commander William Simpson:  "Charles Upham, VC & Bar - New Zealand's Greatest Hero"  We heard how he earned the Victoria Cross, Britain's preier medal, and even more prestigious bar.

Today was pie day on the ship.  Amazing array of pies but the best in my humble opinion was the apple pie.

After lunch we sailed into the Rotorua Harbor:

This evening was the captains dinner.  If you look closely you can see my head next to John's head in the back.  Nice to get to know other passengers only one of whom I had met.  With over 700 passengers doing the world cruise it's impossible to get to know everyone.

Early start tomorrow morning for our tour of the Rotorua area.
